Traditional psychodynamic often gets hijacked by American ego psychology, shrinking human struggle down to an isolated defect inside a single head and treating language like a private tool owned by an individual mind. In my practice, I reject the fantasy of the self-contained Cartesian ego. Words are not sterile labels; they are living relational networks, carrying the history, debts, and frictions of human connection. Meaning does not begin and end inside your skull, and no one can unilaterally dictate what their words or actions mean.
In standard therapy, providers often panic when their impact contradicts their intent, retreating into administrative defensiveness and demanding that clients accept their good intentions. In my room, I recognize that communication is complete only when a message is received, decoded, and returned by the other. This is known as the Socratic Method. The gap between what a person intends and how their actions land is not a communication failure to be policed; it is the concrete proof that human beings exist in an open, relational web where no single actor owns the dictionary. This is known as Lacanian theory.
Standard psychology views desire as a defect or a personal lack to be cured, assuming that a person is broken if they cannot achieve quiet, self-sufficient independence. Drawing on lived experience of Mitochondrial Disease and Tourette's, Systems Theory, and Object Relations; I understand that desire and distress are born from the structural gaps of language and the universal human condition of dependency. When human beings are separated from the physical safety, care, and intimacy they need, their nervous systems and speech circle that absence. Distress is not an internal malfunction; it is the material impact of navigating an unaccommodating environment that starves people of connection. By stripping psychodynamics of its pathologizing and prescribing baggage, I refuse to reduce your life to a script or force your body into compliance.
Grounding this understanding in Relational Cultural Theory and Critical & Theoretical Frameworks, I offer a space where you do not have to perform for authority or surrender your perception to a clinical expert. When you enter my room, I throw clinical power at your feet, meeting you on equal ground to examine how language, power, and relationships shape your reality. Together, you and I use Psychodynamics, Narrative Therapy, and Embodiment & Feminist Theory to help you reclaim your voice, untangle internalized shame, and navigate Boundaries & Being in Relationship on your own terms.
